“HP CHAMBER CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS!”
This year’s 36th Anniversary “Huntington Park Charity Golf Tournament” attracted a good number of area businesses and organizations at the annual business community tradition on June 3 at the Rio Hondo Golf Course in the city of Downey.
The tournament formerly known as the “Sports Celebrity Open Golf” received its name change at the decision of the Chamber’s Board of Directors opting “to assist worthy charities in the community. Last year the event assisted the Salvation Army and Southeast Churches Services Center to assist them in their Holiday Season program for the less fortunate families of the area,” said Martinez.
The open to the public Golf Tournament is annually organized by The Greater Huntington Park Area Chamber of Commerce. This year’s Sponsor included City of Vernon, Brabant Realty & Management, Christiansen Amusements and United Pacific Waste. Serving as our Media Partner was El Aviso Magazine. Area businesses also supported the event through the sponsoring of a respective team or through a Tee-sign.
Golfers were hosted to a breakfast, beverages, souvenir gift bag, food samplings, raffles, and an awards luncheon. Trophies were awarded to the best golfers, 1st Jack W. Parks Memorial Awards and 2nd Place in Scramble Format, in addition an award was presented to the best dressed golfer. The first place trophy is named after a former Mayor of the City and President of the Chamber.
Also, prizes will be awarded to the player that golfs closest-to-the-pin and the longest drive, respectively.
Assisting in organizing this year’s tournament were committee members Co-Chairmen Don Brabant, Jose Zepeda, Jr. alongside Sonia Luz-Chavez, Leonardo Lopez, Jr., Anna Chavez, Stefanie Villagomez and Leticia Martinez.
